Why I Quit Instagram For Three Months And Loved It

Accepting where I am doesn’t mean I’m giving up; it’s about improving and learning how to be better. Life can be incredibly challenging — sometimes, even when things seem to be going well, we can feel confused and lost. It’s normal to feel this way. And let’s be real: social media can make it even harder. Scrolling through everyone else’s seemingly perfect lives can leave you feeling hesitant and discouraged.

After realizing how drained I felt, I decided to deactivate my Instagram account for three months. Honestly, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The moment I hit that deactivate button, a wave of peace washed over me. Sure, I missed out on my friends’ updates, but I quickly learned that I didn’t need to know everything. I didn’t need to compare myself to others or feel jealous of their achievements. It was liberating to just focus on being myself.

I love capturing moments and sharing photos and videos, but it became exhausting to constantly worry about whether my photos were “good enough.” I found myself stressing over likes and comments, afraid of what others might think. So, when I took that leap and deleted the app, I knew it was a healthy choice.

My friends started reaching out, wondering where I had disappeared to. They thought I’d blocked them! It was a reminder of who truly cares. I discovered who would check in on me, who would reach out just to see how I was doing. Those connections are meaningful. It’s touching to realize that while some people may forget you, there are those who genuinely want to stay in touch.

Taking a break from social media is quiet, and at times it can feel isolating. I even toyed with the idea of deleting my account for good. Scrolling through feeds often felt like a waste of precious time. Instead, I started using that time for hobbies and activities that truly matter.

When I spend my days at home, I feel a profound sense of joy and peace. I dive into books, binge-watch my favorite shows, listen to music that heals my soul, and journal my thoughts. I bake cakes, build Lego creations with my younger siblings, enjoy Korean dramas with my mom, and savor family dinners. All these little things bring me happiness, and I’m endlessly grateful for them.

So, if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just flat, I encourage you to take a step back from social media. Look around you and explore what’s available in your real life. If motivation seems to be lacking or you feel like nothing is changing, take the time to pause. I hope you find your own peace and happiness, just as I did.
