A tribute to the ones who loved us first
For Mom and Dad
Your hands were always there to catch me,
When my first steps turned to falls,
Your voices guided through the darkness,
When fear echoed through the halls.
Mom, you were my first teacher,
Of kindness, love, and grace,
Your gentle touch could heal all wounds,
Your smile lit up any place.
Dad, you were my hero,
Strong shoulders I could climb,
You showed me how to brave the world,
One challenge at a time.
Through countless midnight fevers,
And endless homework nights,
You sacrificed your dreams for mine,
To help me reach new heights.
Those packed lunches, bedtime stories,
The rides to every game,
Each small act of devotion,
No “thank you” could contain.
The wisdom in your wrinkles,
The silver in your hair,
Tell stories of the years you spent,
Just showing that you care.
Now as I watch you aging,
My heart both swells and breaks,
For all the love you’ve given me,
For all the care it takes.
Your footsteps made the pathway,
That taught me how to walk,
Your voices gave me language,
That taught me how to talk.
In every triumph, every joy,
Your love shines bright and true,
For everything I am today,
I owe it all to you.
So let these words forever stay,
Though simple they may be,
Thank you, dearest Mom and Dad,
For giving life to me.
For Those No Longer Here
If your parents have passed on, know that their love still echoes:
Though you’ve crossed beyond the veil,
Where I can’t see your face,
Your love still wraps around me,
Like a warm and soft embrace.
In every lesson that you taught,
In wisdom you bestowed,
You live on in my heart and mind,
Along life’s winding road.
I hope somewhere you’re smiling,
Proud of who I’ve grown to be,
For every step I take in life,
Carries parts of you with me.
For Single Parents
A special verse for those who played both roles:
You wore all hats with grace and strength,
Both mother and father too,
Your love multiplied to fill the space,
No task too great for you.
Your sacrifice, your endless love,
Your courage day by day,
Shows me what true strength looks like,
As you light up my way.
For Those Who Chose to Parent
To adoptive parents and those who chose to love us:
Love isn’t bound by blood alone,
But by the heart’s decree,
You chose to make me yours to love,
And that means everything to me.
Your choice to love, to guide, to care,
To make me as your own,
Has planted seeds of gratitude,
That have so deeply grown.
A Final Thank You
No words can fully capture,
The depth of what you mean,
You’re the roots beneath my branches,
In life’s ever-growing scene.
So I’ll love you and I’ll thank you,
Every day that I’m alive,
For giving me the gift of life,
And teaching me to thrive.
To all parents out there: Your love creates ripples that touch generations. Never doubt the power of your presence in your children’s lives.
